What Is Panchakarma Treatment and How Can It Help You?

There are many ancient practices for rejuvenation in Ayurveda, out of which Panchakarma treatment is very important.

Panchakarma is the specialty of the Ayurveda medical system, which is not in any medical procedure. Many complex and incurable diseases cannot be treated with medicine and can be easily cured with Panchakarma.

What Is Panchakarma?

Panchakarma is an ancient purification therapy method of Ayurveda. In this, purification is work by taking out the irritating doshas of the body. In this Ayurveda Chikitsa karma, diseas is remove by bringing the imbalanced Vata, Pitta, and Kapha doshas into an actual state. Panchakarma is also know as Panchakarma-Chikitsa.

The literal meaning of the name Panchakarma is “Five Karma,” which means this technique removes toxins from the body by using suitable medicinal substances by performing Five Karma. Panchakarma treatment technique purifies the body and brings all the three doshas, Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, into an actual state, and the irritable doshas get out of the body.

Firstly, Panchakarma therapy purifies the blocked sources of the body and equilibrates the fire, thereby improving the body and increasing health.

Panchakarma Treatment

Panchakarma is one of the excellent medical methods of Ayurveda. Medicine in Ayurveda divided into three main parts.

  1. Daiva Vyapashraya Chikitsa ( Treatment through divine Vedic mantras)
  2. Yukti-Vyapashraya Chikitsa (Medicinal treatment or Rational Treatment)
  3. Satvavajaya Chikitsa (Ayurvedic psychotherapy)

Panchakarma is a part of Yukti Vyapashraya Chikitsa, which includes many Karmas. But mainly for purification therapy, by Panchakarma treastment.

Five Karmas

In Panchakarma, five karmas are mainly use to purify the whole body, known as prime Karma.

These five karmas are as follows:

  1. Vamana (therapeutic emesis)
  2. Virechanam (purgation)
  3. Anuvasana (enema using medicated oil)
  4. Nasyam
  5. Asthana Vasti (Therapeutic Decoction Enema)

Acharya Sushruta (father of surgery) has included Raktmokshana in Panchakarma instead of Aasthana Vasti.

How Can Panchakarma Treatment Help You?

In this paragraph, I am going to tell about “Panchakarma therapy”. Panchakarma therapy purifies the blocked body channels and equilibrates the fire, thereby improving the body and enhancing physical and mental health.

There is a three-step process in Ayurvedic Panchakarma treatment that can help you.

  • Poorva karma
  • Pradhana Karma

Purva Karma (Snehana, Swedana)

The process is doing before the main action of Panchakarma also known as Purva Karma. However, The person can remove the toxic substances (ama) from the body by lubrication and sweating. Ama is the primary cause of all diseases.

Pradhana Karma (Panchkarma)

When a person capable of performing Panchakarma after performing Snehana Swedana, then the main action (Panchkarma).

The Five Karma in Panchakarma is as follows.

Vamana (Emesis or Vomiting Therapy)

This Karma is mainly for Kapha diseases and Vata Kapha diseases. It is necessary to correct various phlegm diseases arising in the head, bone, joint and mucous places.

Virechan or Purgation

In the Virechana process, the contaminated doshas are remove in a controlled manner from the excretory tract. This is especially work in the diseases which is cause by the dysfunction of pitta.

Anuvasan Basti (Oil Enema)

Putting any medicine in the anus also known as ‘Basti Karma’. Moreover, Basti karma in which only ghee, oil, and also other lubricating substances is use in large quantity known as ‘Anusana’ or ‘Snehan Basti’.

Nasyam

Through this action of Panchakarma, the doshas located in the head are removed from the nostrils, and the patient is benefit, which are selected and used according to the disease and the patient.

Aasthapan Basti or Niruh

The Vasti therapy method is mainly use in Vata Vyadhis (nervous disorders). In this, medicines are prepare from medicinal herbs, in which honey, salt, lipids, and other drugs are given inside the rectum. “Niruh” indicates “elimination of morbid dosha or disease from the body. And “establishment” indicates “establishment of life span and age”.

Asthan Vasti is beneficial in constipation, kidney stones, back pain, abdominal cramps and pain and other types of joint pain (Vata Vyadhi)

Raktamokshan

In this Karma, the blood is purified. Bad blood is the root of many diseases. In such a situation, the bad blood present in the body is cleaned through this process. Eczema, acne, skin diseases, etc., can be removed with this.

Panchakarma is said to be useful for both the healthy and the sick. According to the season, we should do Panchakarma (refinement) so that the irritable doshas in our body continue to do their natural work in the same condition.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Panchakarma treatment leads to better health, which is free from toxins and imbalances, and has a major role in rebuilding the body. It recommends using remedies such as Vamana, Virechana, Basti, Nasya, and Raktamokshan to correct deep-rooted imbalances.

Apart from Panchakarma, other medical methods only pacify the virulent doshas in our body, which alleviates the diseases. Still, there is a possibility of re-occurrence of the disease.
